Taiwan´s most powerful earthquake since records began has struck approximately 700 kilometers east from Taiwan, triggering a massive tsunami around South Bay Taiwan.
Everything was swept away by a wall of water after the 8.5-magnitude tremor, which struck about 400km (250 miles) around the South Bay of Taiwan.
A state of emergency has been declared at the Maanshan power plant, where pressure has exceeded normal levels. The plant works with chemicals such as nickel and chrome who could be very nocive to health and the environment.
Officials say 500 people are dead and about 700 missing, but it is feared the final death toll will be much higher.
Thousands of people living near the Maanshan power plant have been ordered to evacuate.
